Rainy Day in China

This morning we woke up to rain. Not just a little rain but a continuous downpour. I guess this is something we will have to get used to here. It makes it a little boring for the kids though because we don't have a TV or much to do in the house yet. Gavin and I are planning to go to Wo Er Ma (Walmart) later today and hopefully we can get a TV soon. The only problem is that the cable stations will all be in Chinese. We want to get it hooked up for the Olympics.

Jonny made some new friends yesterday. There is a family here that have triplet boys his age. They are very athletic so Jonny gets along great with them. They also have a daughter Nicole's age. Rachel has also made some good friends from church. She met a girl her age from Bentonville, AR. Her dad works for Walmart and will be here for at least another year. She has gone over to their house everyday this week so far.

Gavin and I went to get physicals yesterday for our Working Visa. We went with a group of us from the school to a hospital in Shenzhen. They were very efficient. They give you this list of rooms you have to go to for different procedures and you just go like an assembly line. We had to get blood work, EKG, Ultrasound, Chest X-ray, vision check, blood pressure, weight/height, Dental check, and then finally a urine sample. They did all of this within 30 minutes. It was incredible. They gave us a barcode and fingerprint when we first walked in so that when we went to each room they just scanned the barcode like we were a slab of meat from the grocery store. I don't know how thorough they really were but it definately was fast and convenient. The only disgusting part was the urine sample. The restrooms were filthy and they didn't have toilets, they were squats (holes in the floor). The hard part was trying to keep your clothes from falling into pee while you were trying to pee into a little cup and not spill the cup. It was an experience.

We are going to interview our maid today. YEA!! I definately could use some help. Not necessarily with the cleaning but with the food and getting things for our home. Hopefully she can start soon.
