Christmas in Shekou

It was really nice to see that they try to make it festive for us foreigners here. This is down at Sea World near our house. This is the closest we will get to snow this year.

They have several decorated trees around the plaza. This one had large crab and fish on it. I guess they were trying to fit the Sea World theme into Christmas.
We were very surprised to see this large tree right in the middle of the lower plaza. Rachel, Nicole, and I had gone down the day before this picture was taken and had a pedicure at the nail shop behind the tree under the ship. The tree was up but wasn't completely decorated yet and we were wondering how they were going to get the decorations at the top. While we were having our pedicure we saw this little Chinese man with a large bag of ornaments start climbing the outside of the tree. The tree is just a large metal frame with garland wrapped around it but he was climbing it like a ladder. He went all the way to the top and reached into his bag and started placing the ornaments on the tree. That was one day that we wished we had our camera with us. How many times will you get to see a Chinese man climb a 60 foot Christmas tree to decorate it? It was quite the sight.
