Christmas in Europe - Slovenia Day 13

We got up bright and early for a day of skiing.  Our hotel room had a little kitchen so of course we started our day with sausage and scrambled eggs before we headed off for the slopes.  YUMMY.

We arrived at the bottom of the mountain at Vogel Ski Center where we had to take a gondola up to the top.  We still were a little skeptical about the skiing since we didn't see much snow, but we were in for a HUGE surprise.

The gondola went up about 1,000 meters into the clouds.  When we stepped off, we were welcomed with a spectacular view of the lake below.  Still doesn't look like much snow looking down, but behind us, the mountains are covered with snow.  Vogel is known for excellent ski conditions because of the location of the mountains above the Adriatic Sea.  They are the first mountain range above the Adriatic Sea which equates to lots of snow, even in December.

Above the clouds.

As you can see off in the distance, the mountains were covered with snow.  It was a cloudy rainy day down in the valley, but up above the clouds, was PERFECT!

Vika's first try at skiing.
Vika had never gone skiing before since she was just a toddler when we left Utah.  In fact, I don't think she remembers ever seeing snow.  we spent a few minutes on the bunny hill with her, and then she was off on her own going up and down the little hill while the rest of us went to the big kid hills.

Nicole and Jonny both skied rather than snow board.  They realized how much fun skiing can be.

Beautiful day for skiing.

After a few hours on the bunny hill, Vika joined us on the big kid slope and did AWESOME!  She was a fearless natural and even got the cutting back and forth down.
White beautiful snow!

So glad we were able to join our friends, the Woodhead's and Galicia's, on this trip.  Skiing is so much better with good friends around.

Love all these guys and wish we were closer to hang out together.  Guess we need to go back next year  :)
Cold, tired, but HAPPY!
